The results for CIE Economics in June 2024 were not as strong as previous series. While A2 results show promising news, AS results fell short of expectations. For AS Economics, the total raw mark is 90, with a score of 46 (23 from Paper 1 and 23 from Paper 2) required for an A grade.
Paper 2's 23/60 is the lowest ever since the syllabus change in 2023, compared to the highest of 28/60 in the March 2024 series. Some may believe that a lower grade threshold makes it easier to achieve an A, but this is not true. Scoring 46/90 means that gaining one point also results in losing one point, indicating that the paper was challenging and the marking was stringent.
Despite these difficulties, I'm pleased that most of my students scored above 80 in AS and achieved A* overall in A-Level Economics.
